Oeko-Institut is a leading independent European research and consultancy institute working for a sustainable future. Founded in 1977, the institute develops principles and strategies for ways in which the vision of sustainable development can be realised globally, nationally and locally. It has offices in three cities in Germany: Freiburg, Darmstadt and Berlin.
For the Energy & Climate Division, we are looking for a
Thesis student or intern
to start in Berlin /Freiburg /Darmstadt at the next possible date.
Key areas of your work will be:
- Analysing projects that aim to reduce emissions and generate carbon credits as part of the voluntary carbon market. The focus will be on projects that distribute efficient cookstoves to households with the aim of reducing emissions from burning fuel.
- Extending and refining a programme/model in python to classify cookstove projects into project types based on project documentation using large language models.
Your profile
- You are currently enrolled at a bachelor’s or master’s programme in a field related to programming or data science, ideally with a background or interest in climate change or development cooperation.
- You are about to register a bachelor’s or master’s thesis, or you are looking for an internship required by your bachelor’s or master’s programme with a duration for of at least three months.
- You have strong quantitative and qualitative skills and experience with developing programs in Python, large language models, and Microsoft Excel.
- You have a very good command of English.
- You have an independent and self-reliant way of working, strong organisational skills and very good teamwork skills.
